      What is protea and how does it have protein if it's tea?
      protea is a protein drink made by blending whey protein isolate with real tea. The protein doesn't come from the tea: it comes from clear whey protein isolate, a highly purified form of whey that has been filtered to remove its milky taste, colour, fat, and lactose. This is what makes protea transparent and light-tasting, like a regular tea.
      Why is protea transparent / clear?
      protea uses an ultra-filtered form of whey protein isolate. This filtration process strips out the fat, sugar, lactose, and milky compounds from the whey, leaving only the pure protein which is naturally clear. Combined with real tea extracts, the result is a drink that looks and tastes like tea, not a protein shake.
      Does protea contain sugar or artificial sweeteners?
      No sugar and no artificial sweeteners. We sweeten classic protea with a blend of erythritol (a natural sweetener found in fruits like watermelons and grapes) and stevia leaf extract (from a plant traditionally used to sweeten teas in South America). Both are plant-based and low-calorie. 

      Note that this is separate from the protea+ line of sweeter drinks, which uses sucralose.
      Is protea suitable for people with lactose intolerance?
      Yes. protea is 100% lactose-free. The whey protein isolate we use goes through a filtration process that removes all lactose, making it easy to digest even if you're lactose intolerant.
      Is protea suitable for vegetarians or vegans?
      protea is suitable for vegetarians. It is not suitable for vegans, as it contains whey protein isolate derived from cow's milk.
      Which flavours contain caffeine?
      Jasmine Tea and Osmanthus Oolong Tea both contain caffeine naturally found in tea, at levels roughly equivalent to a coffee. Chrysanthemum Tea is decaffeinated, so it may contain trace amounts of caffeine but is our recommendation if you drink protea at night.
      Has protea been tested for safety and heavy metals?
      Yes. protea undergoes independent third-party lab testing to verify protein content and safety. We have also conducted heavy metal testing — including for arsenic, lead, mercury, cadmium, and others — using the ICP-MS method. All results meet safety requirements.
      Does protea taste like a protein shake?
      Not really. The ultra-filtration process removes most of the milky "protein powder" taste and smell, and we use real tea to give it a natural, light flavour. Most people who dislike regular protein drinks are pleasantly surprised by protea. We recommend drinking it chilled for the best experience, where it tastes like a cold tea.
      How should I store protea? Does it need to be refrigerated?
      Unopened bottles can be stored at room temperature for up to 12 months, no refrigeration needed. We do recommend chilling before drinking for the best taste. Once opened, keep the bottle refrigerated and finish it within 24 hours.
